New York Korean Film Festival

Just heard from Isabel who sent me word on this year’s NY Korean Film Fest.  Kicks off August 21 and runs ’til  the 31st, and brings it all back to Cinema Village on 12th and University.

There’s a nice reception planned for the 21st where the movie Hwang Jin-Yi will screen.

Other movies that look good are Le Grand Chef (based on a cooking manhwa- yea!), My Father, Open City, With a Girl of Black Soil about life in a mining town:

검은 땅의 소녀와
With a Girl of Black Soil (검은 땅의 소녀와)

And Spare:

스페어
Spare (스페어)

Which will bring bare-fisted martial arts action back to Cinema Village!

I’m really hoping that the fight scenes in this movie are as inspiring as the one in Old Boy where Oh Dai-su goes up against a thick gang of thugs in a low-slung hallway with only a hammer.
